A Proper Pint of Tennent's — Poured on Tap

Tennent's Lager is the taste of Scotland in a glass. Brewed at the Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow's East End since 1885, it is Scotland's best-selling beer and one of the most recognised lagers in the world — yet genuinely difficult to find in Melbourne.

Invergordon Bar is one of the very few places in Melbourne where you can order a fresh pint of Tennent's from the tap. Not a can. Not a bottle. A proper draught pint, the way it is served in every pub from Glasgow to Inverness.

If you've been missing the taste of home, or you're simply curious what all the fuss is about, come in and pull up a stool.

Wellpark Brewery, Glasgow — Brewing Since 1556

The Wellpark Brewery site in Glasgow's East End has a brewing history stretching back to 1556, when Robert Tennent first brewed there — making it the oldest continuous commercial concern in Glasgow. The formal company H. & R. Tennent was established in 1740, and in the 1790s the family expanded by purchasing a neighbouring brewery and naming the five-acre site Wellpark.

Today Tennent Caledonian Breweries is part of C&C Group, but the lager is still brewed at Wellpark. The brewery remains one of the largest in the UK and a genuine piece of Glasgow's industrial heritage.

The UK's First Commercial Lager

In 1885, Hugh Tennent visited Bavaria and tasted the local pilsner-style beers that were transforming European drinking culture. Inspired, he brought those cold-fermentation techniques back to Wellpark and launched Tennent's Lager — the first commercially produced lager in the United Kingdom.

The crisp, clean style caught on immediately. Within decades it had become Scotland's dominant beer, a position it has never relinquished.

Tennent's Lager — Frequently Asked Questions

Everything you want to know about Scotland's most famous lager and where to find it in Melbourne.

What is Tennent's Lager?

Tennent's Lager is Scotland's most iconic beer, brewed at the Wellpark Brewery in Glasgow. First produced as a lager in 1885, it is one of the first lagers commercially brewed in the United Kingdom. At 4% ABV, it is crisp, clean-drinking, and Scotland's best-selling beer.

Where can I get Tennent's Lager in Melbourne?

Invergordon Bar at 381 Docklands Drive, Docklands VIC 3008 is one of Melbourne's very few venues serving Tennent's Lager on tap. We're open daily — check our hours above. No need to book for a pint, just walk in.

Is Tennent's on tap or only in cans/bottles?

Tennent's Lager is served on draught (tap) at Invergordon Bar. A fresh pint poured from the tap is the proper way to enjoy Tennent's — the way it's served in Glasgow pubs, and the only way we serve it here.

How strong is Tennent's Lager?

Standard Tennent's Lager is 4% ABV — a session-strength lager that's crisp and very drinkable. This is the classic pub strength served across Scotland, and it's what we pour at Invergordon Bar.

When was Tennent's Lager first brewed?

Hugh Tennent visited Bavaria in 1885, tasted local pilsner-style beers, and returned to Wellpark to launch Tennent's Lager — the UK's first commercially produced lager. The Wellpark Brewery site itself has a brewing history going back to 1556, making it Glasgow's oldest continuous commercial concern.

Is Tennent's the same as Tennent's Super?

No. Tennent's Super is a separate product at 9% ABV. The Tennent's Lager served on tap at Invergordon Bar is the classic 4% version — Scotland's everyday pint, not the high-strength variety.

What other Scottish or British drinks does Invergordon Bar serve?

Alongside Tennent's Lager, we serve McEwans Export, Guinness, Kilkenny & Magners Apple Cider on draught and carry a selection of Highland single malt whiskies. We also stock IRN-BRU and Scottish snacks. Check our drinks menu or ask at the bar for what's currently pouring.

Walk-ins are always welcome. Bookings are recommended for groups of 6 or more, and on AFL and NRL game days or post-concert nights when Docklands fills up. Book online at invergordonbar.com.au or email info@invergordonbar.com.au.
