Docklands works well for an Easter or school-holiday outing because you can mix indoor activities with a waterfront walk. Operator hours and holiday programmes change, so build the day around current listings rather than last year’s timetable.

Choose one main activity

The District Docklands lists cinema, ice skating and indoor entertainment operators. Check age limits, session times and booking conditions with the operator before travelling.

Add a free stop

Walk part of Victoria Harbour Promenade, or visit Library at The Dock during its current opening hours. Library events may require a booking even when entry to the building is free.

Have a weather backup

Melbourne can change its mind quickly. Pair an outdoor walk with an indoor option, and check whether each attraction is running on the public holiday itself. The Melbourne Star is not an option to assume: The District’s current update says a new attraction is expected, without a firm reopening date.

Finish with an easy meal and drink

Getting to Docklands
