Free and Cheap Things to Do in Docklands

A Docklands day can include waterfront views, public art and the library without an admission ticket. Choose free stops first, then decide what you want to spend on food, entertainment or a drink.

Walk the waterfront

Library at The Dock

The City of Melbourne listing describes the public library, study spaces and free wi-fi at 107 Victoria Harbour Promenade. Check opening hours and event booking requirements; a free library does not mean every activity or hire space is free.

Public art and maritime history

Look for public art as you walk through Docklands. For the Mission to Seafarers, check the venue’s visitor arrangements before planning to go inside. You can appreciate the streetscape without assuming all buildings have free public access.

Use the Free Tram Zone correctly

Tram journeys entirely within the signed Free Tram Zone are free. If your journey starts or finishes outside it, use myki as required. The zone does not make trains, airport buses or every trip from Docklands free. See Transport Victoria’s fare guidance and network and zone maps.
