Highland Whisky in Melbourne | Invergordon Bar’s Scottish Whisky Guide

A Highland in Docklands: Our Guide to Proper Scottish Whisky

Few things are more iconic than Highland whisky and few drinks deserve more respect.

At Invergordon Bar, whisky isn’t a novelty or a footnote. It’s central to who we are. When we open our doors in Docklands, Melbourne, we’ll be pouring a hand-picked selection of Highland single malts, smooth blends, and lesser-known gems — all served the way they’re meant to be.

What Makes Highland Whisky Special?

Highland whisky comes from the largest region in Scotland and is known for its diversity from rich and smoky to floral and honeyed. Names like Glenmorangie, Dalmore, and Glendronach have become global symbols of quality and craft.

Whether you’re just starting your whisky journey or know your way around a dram, Highland whiskies offer depth, character, and history in every sip.

Some of the Highland Whiskies We’ll Be Pouring

We’ll be rotating our collection based on seasons and supply, but here’s a taste of what you can expect behind the bar:

  • Glenmorangie Original – Elegant and floral with citrus and vanilla. A perfect introduction to Highland whisky.
  • Dalmore 12 – Bold and rich with orange zest, dark chocolate, and spice. A Docklands winter favourite.
  • Glendronach 12 – Sherried, deep, and luxurious. One for those who like their whisky dark and full-bodied.
  • Aberfeldy 12 – Soft honey, almonds, and just a touch of smoke. Beautifully balanced.

And we’re not stopping at Highland whiskies. Expect to see drams from Islay, Speyside, the Lowlands, and maybe even a few Irish imports — all curated for those who care about what’s in the glass.

How We’ll Serve It

Neat. With water. Over ice. However you enjoy it — as long as it’s respectful. No sour mixes. No sugar bombs. Just good whisky, served in a quiet moment or shared among friends.

And for those who want to go deeper, we’ll be hosting whisky tasting nights and in the months ahead. More on that soon.

Docklands Needs a Whisky Bar with Soul

There are plenty of bars in Melbourne. But not enough places that know their Highland from their Lowland, their peated from their sherried. Invergordon Bar aims to be that place a proper whisky bar in Docklands, where stories are told over a dram and traditions live on.

We’re not open just yet, but the shelves are already planned, and the bottles are on the way. If you’re ready to discover whisky in a setting that honours its roots, we’ll be ready to pour it soon.

No Pots. No Ponys. Just Pints: Beers at Invergordon Bar, Docklands

No Pots. No Ponys. Just Pints: Beers at Invergordon Bar, Docklands

If you’re the kind of person who believes beer tastes better in a proper pint glass, you’re our kind of people.

At Invergordon Bar, we don’t do pots. We don’t do schooners. And we definitely don’t serve ponys (who decided on that name, anyway?). We pour full pints every time the way beer is meant to be served.

Why Pints Matter

We’re bringing traditional pub culture to Docklands and that means full measures, honest pours, and drinks served with respect. In the UK and Ireland, a pint isn’t just a size it’s a symbol of proper pub life. We’re proud to continue that here in Melbourne.

So if you’ve been hunting for a place that pours real pints in Melbourne, you’ve just found your new local.

Beers We’ll Have on Tap

We’ve partnered with some of the best — including imports from Scotland to make sure every pint feels like home. Here’s what’s going on the taps when we open:

  • Tennent’s Lager (Scotland) – Crisp, iconic, and straight from Glasgow. The national lager of Scotland.
  • Belhaven Scottish Ale (Scotland) – Rich, malty, and packed with heritage. A classic amber ale.
  • Guinness (Ireland) – Need we say more? Poured properly and given the time it deserves.
  • Magners Cider (Ireland) – Clean and refreshing — for those sunny Docklands afternoons.
  • Furphy – A locally brewed easy-drinker, perfect for session pints.
  • Heineken – Familiar, fresh, and always in demand.
  • Invergordon Lager – Our very own house lager, brewed exclusively for the bar.
  • Kilkenny – Smooth, creamy Irish red ale, perfect for something a little different.

Only the Good Stuff

We’re not chasing the latest hazy craze or one-off collaborations (unless they’re brilliant). Our beer list is built on consistency, character, and a nod to the breweries that have been doing it right for generations.

Whether you’re here for a pint of Tennent’s, a frothy Guinness, or your first Belhaven, you’ll always get it poured proper, cold, and full no excuses.

Docklands Has a New Pub Culture Brewing

Melbourne’s Docklands has been crying out for a true pub the kind that values pints over gimmicks, and people over passing trends. Invergordon Bar is here to fill that gap.

We’ll be open soon, but in the meantime, sign up for Invergordon Clan Membership for updates, discounts, and a few cheeky surprises when we launch.

Cheers to the full pint,

The Invergordon Bar Story: How a Family Bar Is Coming to Life in Docklands

The Invergordon Story: How a Family Bar Is Coming to Life in Docklands

In a quiet Scottish town called Invergordon, a legacy was born. And now, it’s about to be poured into a pint glass in Docklands, Melbourne.

Invergordon Bar isn’t just another pub opening in the city. It’s a place built on family, community, and heritage — and it’s coming soon to the heart of Docklands.

From Northern Ireland to Melbourne via Scotland

My name’s Dean, and like many others here in Melbourne, I’ve lived across countries and cultures. I was born in Northern Ireland, spent time in England, moved to Scotland after my grandparents retired to Invergordon, then New Zealand, and finally Australia. Since 2003, Melbourne has been home and it’s where I met my wife Erin, built a family, and now, we’re building something more.

Why This Bar Matters

Invergordon Bar is named for the small town where part of my family’s story unfolded. It’s a tribute to people like my grandparents, Norman and Thelma Haile, who taught me about loyalty, resilience, and the quiet power of community.

This isn’t a corporate venture or a trendy flash-in-the-pan bar. It’s a family-run, purpose-driven pub built for those who want more than a quick drink — it’s for people who want a local. A real one.

A Home Away from Home

We know what it feels like to be far from your roots. That’s why Invergordon Bar is being built as a place where Scottish, Irish, English, Welsh — and all expats — can come together. Whether you’re here for a year or a lifetime, you’ll find connection, familiar accents, and cold pints that remind you of home.

What’s Coming

We’re not open just yet but we’re getting close. Over the next couple of months, we’ll be building out the space, tapping the first kegs, and opening the doors to a place that feels like it’s been here forever.

In the meantime, we’re sharing the journey. If you’re curious about:

  • The Pint Club (our loyalty program with some serious perks)
  • Which Scottish and Irish beers we’ll have on tap
  • How we’re planning live trad music, whisky tastings, and community nights…

Then stay tuned. This isn’t just a bar launch. It’s a story worth following.

Cheers to Progress: Invergordon Bar Receives Its Liquor License

We started this venture with a clear mission: to create a proper Scottish-inspired local for expats and locals alike — a place where stories are shared, friendships are formed, and pints are poured the way they should be.

Big news from Docklands — Invergordon Bar has officially received its liquor license! This is a major milestone on our journey, and we couldn’t be more excited to take one step closer to opening our doors.

With the license now in hand, our focus shifts to the next chapter: bringing the bar to life. We’re in the final stages of confirming our shopfitters and expect the full fit-out to begin by the end of April. From custom timber finishes to a welcoming pint-ready bar, this is where the physical space finally starts to take shape.

Every step forward brings us closer to opening night — and we’re incredibly grateful for the support, interest, and encouragement from all of you.

If you haven’t already, make sure you’re signed up to the Pint Club to be the first to know about our opening date, exclusive offers, and upcoming events.
